Santana 23K

K is for keel

{short description of image}

The Santana 23 is a beautiful Shad Turner design originally introduced as a high performance trailerable cruiser with a retractable keel.

The Santana 23 K has an 1100 pound fixed keel and an interiorideal for daysailinig and overnight crusing. The Twenty Three is delightfully easy to sail, and it is being built to the high standards of quality that make Schock boats so special.

Rig

The Ssntana23 K's rig is a single spreader masthead system that comes with internal halyards. A wing plate at the base of the mast can easily accommodate turning blocks.

Roomy Cruising Interior

The basic simplicity of this interior design offers all you need in a clean, uncluttered cabin arrangement. The gally units, complete with a sink and storage cubbies, are placed just aft of the main bulkhead in the beamiest portion of the boat. The Port side unit offers a perfect platform for simple galley activities and could easily accommodate a small sea stove. A large cooler that doubles as the companionway step provides ample cold storage.

Spacious sleeping accommodations include two wide mid-ship bunks that run aft under the cockppit and a V-berth forward. This berth is equipped with a filler that converts it into a large double bunk. Anchor storage is provided in the forepeak chainlocker, and space for a portable head is located beneath the V-berth filler. An attractive off-white padded fabric covers the hull throughout the interior to enhance the boat's appearance and to provide comfort and insulation.

The quality of this interior is also something to pay close attention to. The floorpan is a onepiece fiberglass unit specifically engineered to add structural strength to this hull design and to support the interior accommodations. It is fiberglass bonded to the hull and is covered with a smooth low maintenance white gelcoat. Each interior unit is also bonded into place. Note the clean, solid installation of the bulkheads and the size and strength of the shroud chainplates. Notice, alaso, the small things: The wood trim on the filler board and the gutters cut into the galley trim to keep water from collecting on the countertops. These are important features always built into Schock products.

Clean, Uncluttered Deck

The trunk cabin design of the 23's deck offers clean streight leads for all the lines and provides wide side decks. Nothing interferes with visibility from the cockpit. The windows and forward hatch are flush mounted plexiglass and the main sliding hatch is fiberglass.

The cockpit is a full eight feet long with wide, comfortable bench seats. Raised winch islands are immediately aft of the cabin. A roller bearing traveler bridges the seats and a T-shaped arrangement of the cockpit sole leaves an opening aft for easy installation and operation of an outboard engine. No outboard braket is necessary.
