The
2023 is a water-ballast, easily trailerable sailboat made by the
long-time California builder Schock Sailboats. Schock is well know for
making fast, well made, and beautiful boats.
The 2023 was
reviewed some time ago in Practical Sailor (look it up if you like) and
stood out as the best sailing boat in its class (compared to MacGregor
26, Catalina 250, etc).
This
boat was purchased new from Stockdale Marine in Sacramento CA in 1993.
I was the original owner. She has been continuously used, cared for,
upgraded and loved since then. She has been exclusively dry-sailed.
When not in
the water, she is stored covered and her batteries kept charged with
her dedicated 3-stage charger and solar panel.
Sailed mostly on the Monterey
Bay, San Francisco Bay, and the Delta, her equipment has been upgraded
and her key components strengthened to handle these challenging venues.
The
new galvanized EZ-Loader trailer is my solution for salt water,
which destroyed
the original painted trailer. The new trailer is MUCH stronger than the
original and tows like dream and handles salt water just fine.
This
is sailor's boat, responsive and fast. She'll surf in a blow and has
plenty of stability yet is beachable with her boards up. Setup is
amazingly easy and she launches and
retrieves just like my dad's skiboat, that is under power, no lines and
single handed; No dock necessary and your tow vehicle stays dry. At
about 2500lbs total towing weight (with motor and gear), she will
tow fine behind a minivan or small SUV -- that's the beauty of water
ballast!
Setup, launching, sailing, retrieving, and take-down can all be easily
done single-handed.
