After building a leeboard for my Nymph according to instruction in Mr. Payson's "Instant Boats" book I discovered the "scantlings" of the design were a bit lacking. You see, my original leeboard broke less than a minute into the maiden voyage! You can see in the photo at left where the glued joint separated the gunwale clamps from the board itself.

What you see here are new clamps made of laminated 1/2" ply pieces (each clamp is 1" thick). The clamps are then through-bolted to the board. The photo shows the repaired board leaning against a mirror so you can see the back side. I used West epoxy for this. The through-bolts are essential to hold the thing together in anything more exciting than a mill pond....

This new board is at least as strong as it looks. It has survived repeated hard groundings and many lively daysails.
